Representative figure of the concept of Open Innovation.
Adherence to the concept occurred through a partnership between DDMX and the Federal University of Itajubá (Unifei), called the Synapse Research Group DDMX Labs. Because it has several research topics available in its knowledge base, which are real problems in its segment, the company realized that scientific research could add innovative or even disruptive solutions to its operations.
Open Innovation is a concept that emerged at the University of Berkeley, one of the most important and renowned universities in the world, and aims to bridge the gap between academic teachings and their application in practice. Companies that adhere to this concept innovate by cooperating with universities, suppliers, customers and even competitors. Students in the group work on real issues with DDMX customers, offering innovative solutions.
Synapse’s slogan “Accelerate Growth, Promote and Absorb Technology” relates to the group’s researched themes, including Big Data Analytics, which is intelligent analysis of large data masses to deliver better decision making in the shortest possible time. ; Internet of Things, which is connectivity between sensors, trackers and data collectors to provide for the participation of all involved in logistics operations; Artificial Intelligence, which is human-like intelligence displayed by mechanisms or software, and Machine Learning, which is the data analysis method that automates the construction of analytical models based on the idea that systems can learn from data, identify patterns, and take decisions with minimal human intervention.
From this perspective, the current research theme is based on the demand for real-time data at the Electric Power Companies Operation and Control centers. When this data is processed, it can turn into insights that help make more assertive decisions. The application of artificial intelligence algorithms is used, for example, to predict the duration and frequency of power outages based on climatic, social and cultural factors.
With this real-time measurement it is possible to improve the quality indicators controlled by the National Electric Energy Agency (Aneel), the development of alerts for operators and managers, interactive interfaces and analytical dashboards to aid decision making, enabling the improvement of quality of service to the end user.

Unifei and DDMX Partnership
The partnership between the University and DDMX had already been published on Unifei’s website in December 2017, in a text produced with information from the company’s Press Office, available at: https://unifei.edu.br/blog/unifei -and-technology-company-make-unpublished partnership /
In this material, the dean of Unifei, professor Dagoberto Alves de Almeida, had said that the company represents Brazil that worked in the midst of the current crisis: value and relate more intensively to Unifei. This type of relationship, which is so common abroad, needs to happen more emphatically here in Brazil. I hope this DDMX initiative will serve as an example for other companies to return to Itajubá in such a healthy environment, conducive to creativity and the development of Science and Technology. ”
